Sally McBeth, of Clear Language and Design, Toronto, has been a professional editor and trainer in clear communication for 30 years. She is a co-author of the Clarity Kit, a joint project of the Canadian Association of Municipal Administrators and the Canadian Union of Public Employees. During 2006/07, she was lead trainer and research consultant on the City of Toronto’s clear language project for staff report writers and approvers. Sally has also been a trainer with the Ontario government’s clear language initiative since 2006.

In 2009, Sally conducted a review and redesign of student aid applications in four Canadian provinces for the Canada Millennium Scholarship Foundation. Using Manitoba’s application as a case study, Sally spoke on readability assessment methodologies at the seventh international conference of the Plain Language Association InterNational (PLAIN) in Sydney, Australia in October 2009.
